Virgil Abloh "EFFLORESCENCE" // Galerie kreo
Designed in 2019 by Virgil Abloh for Galerie kreo, the "efflorescence" Collection consists of twenty pieces: round and coffee tables, consoles, seats, vases and mirrors. This is the third major furniture collection of the designer his first collection for Galerie kreo, as well as the gallery's first street culture exhibition.
Concrete and graffiti hand tagged with neon sprays of graffiti from the city of Abloh, throughout the exhibition refer to street art and hip-hop culture.
Bench 2 by its length of nearly three meters reminds us of skate ramps; its presence best embodies the designer's desire to bring urban language and street culture into the gallery's white space.
Chair 1 and Chair 2 are just simple concrete bricks with a striated back, and we find on the works the leitmotif of the exhibition, the presence of holes and graffiti. "Here, the heritage of the Brutalism, its forms and ideas, are literally perforated, extruded to serve as a pedestal for the creative expression of the street." says Virgil Abloh.
